Migrate from Render to Layerbase
Move your Render Postgres to a managed Layerbase database in one guided pass. Paste an API key, pick an instance, and we copy the schema and data. Read-once, your Render database is never modified, and credentials are never stored.
Why switch
Why teams leave Render
A platform built around your database
Daily backups, a web SQL console, database branching, and TLS connection strings out of the box. The database is the product, not a sidecar to your web service.
Free tier for Postgres
Start at $0 with a real Postgres, then $5/mo Solo or $15/mo Pro when you grow. Flat plans, no per-resource line items.
No connection-string hunting
Paste a Render API key and we list your Postgres instances. Pick one and the migration starts: no digging through dashboards for hostnames and passwords.
How it works
Four steps, one pass
- 1
Create a free account or sign in
Sign in with Google or GitHub. No credit card is needed to start, and the migration wizard opens with this platform already selected.
- 2
Connect your account
Paste a Render API key (Account Settings, then API Keys). We list your available Postgres instances so you can pick one: no connection-string hunting and no separate password.
- 3
Pick what to migrate and name it
Choose what to bring over, give the new Layerbase database a name, and start the migration. Progress streams live in the dashboard.
- 4
We copy it in one pass
The migration reads from Render once and never writes to it. Credentials are used for the copy and never stored. When it finishes, you land in your new database with a live TLS connection string.
Questions
Common Render migration questions
Will my Render database be modified?+
No. The migration is read-once: we connect, copy the schema and data, and disconnect. Your Render instance keeps serving traffic the whole time.
What credentials do I need?+
A Render API key (Account Settings, then API Keys). We use it once to list your Postgres instances so you can pick one, and it is never stored.
Do I need downtime to migrate?+
The copy itself needs none: your Render database stays live while we read from it. Point your app at the new Layerbase connection string whenever you are ready to cut over.
What does it cost?+
Postgres is on the Layerbase Free tier, so you can migrate and evaluate without a credit card. Paid plans start at $5 a month.
Ready to leave Render?
Sign in, and the migration wizard opens with Render already selected. Your source is read once and never modified, so there is nothing to undo if you change your mind.
